WHY TIMBER?

High Quality - Superior Acoustics - Aestheticsal- Energy Efficient - Good Fire Resistance - Low Cost - Speed of Erection - Almost no Maintenance.

Thermal properties:
Wood is 2 times better than concrete, 400 times better than steel and 1,500 times better than aluminum.

THE MYTHS

Wood Easily Rots!
No, the design has to provide good ventilation to allow the timber to breathe. Internal wood should be kept dry. The moisture content should not exceed 20%. External wood can be exposed to the weather but good drainage is of importance. Many examples of mediaeval houses and barns still exist today.

Wood Burns Easily!
No, glue laminated structures have a high resistance to and a predictable performance in fire. Scandinavian redwood chars at a slow rate of 40mm per hour, thus creating a fire protective barrier and more importantly retains its structural integrity.

Wood is expensive!
No, a direct comparison shows that laminated structures are less expensive than steel or concrete structures. The lower weight of laminated timber also make savings on foundations, transport and erection time.

Wood Lacks Strength!
No, a structural steel beam is about 20% heavier and reinforced concrete beam 600% heavier than the equivalent laminated timber beam. With minimal maintenance required and use in the correct environment the expected life span is virtually unlimited.

Wood has limited span!
No, the arched structure is the least complicated and strongest shape. This shape has been used frequently for large spans in Europe, Russia and USA.
E.g. spans: Littledown, Bournemouth 48m
Utopia Pavilion, Expo 98, Lisbon 119m

Wood usage depletes forests!
No, our laminated structures are made from sustainable timber from Finland, Sweden and Norway.
Example: In Finland 65% of the area is forest (20.1 million hectares). Forests in Finland increase on average 13.8 million m3 per year or 5,50000 hectares per year. Legislation in Finland demands the planting of 2 new trees for every felled.
